Accountant (Security Company)

Core Objective

To manage the company’s finances, ensure financial accuracy, cost control, regulatory compliance, and profitability in security operations.

Key Functions / Responsibilities

1. Financial Records & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate books of accounts.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage general ledger, trial balance, and reconciliations.

2. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Prepare annual budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Monitor operational costs ( fuel, equipment, maintenance).
  • Control project and installation costs for CCTV/access control systems.

3. Payroll & Staff-Related Accounting

  • Manage payroll for, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Ensure correct overtime, allowances, SSNIT, and pensions.
  • Reconcile payroll with attendance and duty rosters.

4. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage client invoicing and contract billing.
  • Track outstanding receivables and follow up on payments.
  • Process supplier and vendor payments.
  • Critical: Many security companies operate on contracts—cash flow is key.

5. Taxation & Statutory Compliance

Prepare and file:

  • PAYE
  • VAT
  • Corporate income tax

Ensure compliance with Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) requirements.

Liaise with tax authorities and auditors.

6. Procurement & Asset Accounting

  • Track security equipment (cameras, servers, vehicles, radios).
  • Manage depreciation and asset registers.
  • Support procurement decisions with cost analysis.

7. Internal Controls & Fraud Prevention

  • Implement financial controls and approval processes.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, payroll padding, or ghost workers.
  • Conduct internal audits and spot checks.

8. Contract & Project Accounting

  • Monitor profitability of security contracts.
  • Allocate costs to specific sites or clients.
  • Support pricing and tender costing.

9. Audit & Management Support

  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Prepare financial reports for management decision-making.
  • Advise management on cost reduction and financial risks.

Qualifications & Requirements

Academic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Business Administration (Accounting option)

Professional Certifications (Strong Advantage)

  • ICA Ghana (CA)
  • ACCA
  • CIMA (management accounting focus)

Part qualification acceptable for junior roles

Experience

  • 2–5 years accounting experience
  • Experience in service or security firms is an advantage
  • Familiarity with payroll-heavy organisations preferred
